Workshop on Healthy Aging:
November 28-30, 2001

In November 2001, the Public Health Agency of Canada's Division of Aging and Seniors (formerly of Health Canada) convened experts, non-governmental stakeholders and governmental representatives to a Workshop on Healthy Aging. The first part of the workshop examined aging and health practices, while the second part focussed on seniors and diabetes. Through the Workshop on Healthy Aging, the Division sought advice on strategic directions and priority areas for action on key issues contributing to healthy aging. The Workshop on Healthy Aging was a building block to the creation of new initiatives for seniors, itself built on more than a quarter-century of experience by Health Canada in the area of health promotion for older Canadians.

Please find below the following reports from the Workshop on Healthy Aging:

and the four discussion papers on determinants that play a key role in healthy aging:

Prevention of Unintentional Injuries Among Seniors

Physical Activity and Older Adults

Nutrition and Healthy Aging

Tobacco Use and Smoking Cessation Among Seniors

If you have any questions or would like more copies of the reports, please contact seniors@phac-aspc.gc.ca.
