In 1919 two brothers were drowned at Slate Falls while working on the river drive.

Johnny Wilson was just sixteen and was out on the logs when he lost his balance and fell into the river. The men nearby called for Britton, Johnny's twenty-three year old brother who was working some distance away. Britton came running. He dove into the water to save his brother but never resurfaced.

When Minnie Wilson saw the foreman from the drive coming toward her house on that day in early June she immediately thought of her sons. "Which one?" she asked. It must have broken her heart when she was told that the river had taken both of her eldest sons.
