Mission

The Chief and Council of the York Factory First Nation wish to develop and implement reformed institutions, systems and processes under a comprehensive community development plan which is specific to the York Factory First Nation. The focal point of this reformed system will be the developmental assets approach to social planning as described by Search Institute (www.search-institute.org.). In this community development model, all activity in relation to governance, social planning, culture and economic development focuses around the internal and external assets of the children and youth of the community. The phrase, "It takes a community to raise a child," rings true in this perspective.

The community development model then, focuses on the development of our children within the framework of revised institutions drawn out of processes for governance reform, social reform, cultural restoration and economic development. The community development principles of free choice, valid information, community ownership and the transfer of knowledge and skills will guide the development and implementation of all activities to ensure the autonomy of our membership.
