The Foothills Fescue Climate
The climate of the Foothills Fescue Subregion differs from
that of the Northern Fescue Subregion in having a greater frequency of
Chinooks and thus, a milder winter climate. There is also greater snowfall in late winter and early spring. The majority of
precipitation falls during the growing
season.
The mean annual precipitation ranges from 650 millimeters in the far south to about 500
millimeters in the north. The average precipitation between May and September
is around 290 millimeters. The average temperature during that same
time period ranges from 11 to 13 degrees Celsius while the average
annual temperature is around 3 degrees Celsius with a frost-free period
that averages 90 days.
