The Megillah Esther, or Scroll of Esther, is read on Purim to recount the story of the holiday. The writing of the scroll is often decorated with designs or drawings. Different techniques have been used to do this including etching and painting. The casing for the text is often beautifully carved out of materials such wood, ivory, or silver.
