Seder Plate

Seder Plate Seder Plate

This four tiered Passover seder plate is made of silver and stands at 31 centimeters. The tower is supported by 4 bases that resemble inverted seashells. On the top level there are six figures made of silver whose average height is about 10 centimeters. They are placed in circular formation with a cup, representative of the cup of Elijah in the center. Three columns link the four tiers. On the surfaces of each of the four tiers there is a design. From bottom to top, the first three tiers have the same design of artistic swirls while the top tier has depictions of Passover symbols in addition to the curvilinear swirls. The outer edge of the tiers are not smooth edged rather they are wavy.

The bottom three tiers are reserved for the three matzot used during the Passover service (seder). There are only three sets of columns, as such there is an open area so as to make the matzot easily accessible during the seder. On the top level, the six figurines are performing the duties that are symbolic of Passover. For example one of the figurines is pushing a wheelbarrow. In the wheelbarrow one would put charoset representing the mortar the Israelites used in Egypt when laying bricks. The center cup is the cup reserved for the prophet Elijah and is filled with wine.
