The Americans traded whiskey with the Aboriginal people for furs and other goods. Relations between the Americans and Aboriginal people soured when Americans poisoned pieces of buffalo meat to kill wolves and accidentally killed some of the Aboriginal people's dogs. There was bloodshed over the incident.
