hemp:
(Cannabis sativa) A tall, annual herb, whose fibres are useful in the making or rope, paper and coarse cloth, such as burlap. Some varieties contain narcotic compounds, and so hemp is now illegal in many parts of the world, including Canada. Similar in some ways to jute and kenaf.

heparin:
An anticoagulant that inhibits reactions that lead to the clotting of blood and the formation of fibrin clots.

herbicides:
A substance or preparation for killing plants, especially weeds.

Of or being a system composed of one or more phases.

horticulture:
The science and art of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers and such.

hybrid products:
Products combining techniques and materials of two older products.

hydrocarbon:
One of a large class of organic compounds, containing only carbon and hydrogen.

hydrogen:
Symbol: H Atomic mass: 1.00797 Atomic number: 1 The most common element in the Universe, and also the one with the simplest structure, typically one electron orbiting one proton. Quite reactive, hard to isolate, but a component in water, alcohol, and organic compounds, acids and bases. There is a small amount of hydrogen (H2) in the air.

The process of treating with hydrogen.

hydrology:
The science dealing with the occurence of, circulation, distribution and properties of the waters of the Earth and its atmosphere.

hydrophillic:
Denoting a strong affinity to water.

hydroxyl:
Hydrogen + oxygen.
