At this stage, a learner:

Place Value

  • counts forward and backward by ls, 2s, 5s, 10s, 25s and 100s to and from 1,000
  • understands concept of place value to 3 digits (i.e. can explain that the digit "5" in the number 259 is worth "50" and in the number 598 it is worth "500")
  • using manipulatives such Base Ten Blocks, is able to physically represent numbers 1 to 1,000, and vice versa
  • is able to read, write and show and understanding of numbers in written form (one, two..) from 0~500
  • orders and compares numbers (greater than, less than, equal to) 1-1,000

Patterns and Groups

  • recognizes and creates complex patterns
  • recognizes, creates and labels groups of items (sets, and intersections of sets)
  • is able to read and create a moderately complex graph

Operations

  • can perform multi-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping borrowing and carrying
  • can perform single and double digit multiplication and division
  • can perform addition and subtraction with fractions and decimals
  • understands ratio and percentages

Temperature

  • reads thermometer

Money

  • counts large quantities of money
  • makes change from $20

Measurement

  • can use and understand odometer in car

Calculator

  • can check own work with a calculator

Metacognitive Strategies
