  • Writes a small number of familiar words and simple learned phrases in predictable contexts related to immediate needs.
  • Limited ability to phonetically encode and write unfamiliar words unless they contain sequences of letters and soundsymbol correspondences known from first language or previous learning.
  • Can write more items of personal information in forms and fill out simple slips.
  • Can write a few sentences or phrases about self, family or other highly familiar information in the form of a simple description, either as answers to questions or when guided by some other format of text or context.
  • Accuracy in structure and spelling inconsistent.
