Glue

To save money, some Victorian scrapbookers made their own flour-based pastes for holding images in their scrapbooks. Here is a recipe for glue that Victorian children used when they compiled their scrapbooks.

Recipe

1. Mix _ cup of flour with enough cold water to make a thin batter. The batter must be smooth and free from lumps.
2. Place batter on top of the stove in a saucepan and stir constantly until mixture comes to a boil.
3. Remove the saucepan from the stove and add 3 drops of oil of clove into the mixture.
4. Place paste into plastic cup or container and let cool. When the paste has cooled it can them be used.
