Creekside News Goes Daily!

When Kevin Brown, education coordinator and resident of the Haig-Brown House heritage property, first conceptualized the Creekside News e-zine, it was going to be a daily magazine that explored and archived all of the information related to the Haig-Brown Kingfisher Creek Restoration Project. The archives would serve as a resource for other creek restoration projects around the world. A component of the archives would be articles written about creek related projects all over British Columbia from a variety of external contributors. This premise received funding through a summer grant from Industry Canada's Schoolnet Digital Collections program. It was also seen as an opportunity to revamp the existing Pacific Coast Fisheries web site. The revamped site, now called Pacific Coast Salmon Fisheries, will contain a vast array of new content that will all be framed within a completely new design and layout. The new content will include salmon habitat and conservation information, new material related to the fishing technology section, as well as additional photos. Including myself, four new employees have been hired on to the Web Site project.

To date, the Creekside News has remained bi-daily with a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday posting schedule. The tentative plan was to introduce the e-zine as a daily feature once more activities in the creek commenced. Guess what? The Creekside News is going daily as of Monday July 27, 1998! Virtually all approvals and scheduling has been completed, and all the materials and tools have been gathered. The initial works, such as the clearing of access points, are signaled to start with the "Sod Busting" event this same coming Monday at 10:30 am.

To keep our news content flowing, we are still in need of contributions from other creek projects. If you have any ideas or contributions for the Creekside News, please e-mail me (click on the link on the left navigation bar). Keep watching for daily articles related to the Haig-Brown Kingfisher Creek Restoration Project starting Monday!
