Salmon Main
Project Publicity

By Damien Barstead
Darci Roy at information

booth
Darci Roy has been manning an
information booth at several popular
shopping spots around town to publisize
the restoration project and her tours of the
creek, as well as to raise money for the Society.

In order for any project to succeed, two things are usually needed: publicity, and of course, money. The Haig-Brown Kingfisher Creek Society is attempting to raise a little of both, by setting up an information booth at various locations throughout this week.

Darci Roy, who is currently hosting interpretive tours around the Haig-Brown Kingfisher Creek Heritage properties and the new creek channel, has been manning an information booth at different stores and malls in the Campbell River area.

Armed with the Project’s information placard, along with a couple of stacks of brochures, maps, and other project information, Darci has been explaining the project and its goals to any passers-by who shows a little concern for their urban creeks.

In addition to raising awareness about the restoration project, Darci is also advertising her tours of the creek, which will end this coming weekend as Darci has to return to school for the fall season.

As for money, Darci is trying to raise funds for the Society by selling a variety of multi-coloured, fashionable buttons. For $2.50 you have the option of choosing from several striking colours of "habitat" buttons, but more importantly, you will be supporting the rejuvenation of a once terrific salmon stream.

Buttons for sale
For $2.50 you can own a trendy habitat
button and support the Haig-Brown
Kingfisher Creek Society.

Darci has appeared in front of Overwaitea Foods in the Ironwood Mall, and in front of Zellars, all in the downtown area of Campbell River. Although it may be too late to go see Darci, anyone interested can still purchase a button through the Haig-Brown Kingfisher Creek Society to help support a fully worthwhile cause.
