Here is a selection of letters from the collection of O’Reilly correspondence. The letters are dated between September 1867 and May 1896. From these letters you can determine what the family members considered important to discuss and where their values lay.

In British Columbia, during the Victorian era, letters were an important method of communication. The O’Reilly family kept many of their incoming letters and provide researchers with a valuable source of documentation.

These letters have been provided here as accurately as possible. They include spelling, punctuation, and grammatical mistakes just as they were originally written.

We have also made use of the notation [sic]. This has been added in some places to point out irregular spelling that was used by the O’Reilly family members. For example; pic-nic, to-day, and tho.
