FÉLIX & FORMANGER

    Bernard Félix and Norman Formanger, both from Black Duck Brook, have been playing traditional music together for the past six and a half years. They have recorded four albums and have performed their music in France, Ireland and every province of Canada with the exception of Prince Edward Island.

    Bernard Félix first recognized his musical interest at the early age of six when he started playing the spoons, and later the electric organ. At the age of ten he was playing the accordion, which is his prinicipal instrument today, and by the age of fourteen he was playing the guitar. He was mostly inspired by family members such as his brother, Gerard, his uncle Émile Benoit, and his parents who has musical talents as well. His mother played the accordion and sang and his father played the guitar, piano and accordion. He also learned a few techniques from a couple of community members such as Michael Benoit and Joseph Young.

    Bernard hopes that one day he will be able to read music and teach it to the younger generations. He hopes to keep traditional music alive as he says that he will be playing for the rest of his days.

    Norman Formanger has been persuing his musical interests since the age of fourteen. No one person inparticular taught Norman how to play buthe was mainly influenced by his brothers, Ricky and Bernie and later by locals such as Robert and Laris Benoit. Norman mainly plays the base but can also play the acoustic guitar. He looks forward to the daily pratices where the group comes together to share in the music.

    The group of Félix and Formanger not only enjoys traditional music but it lives in their hearts and has become a part of their every day lives.
