Kevin Cornect

Kevin Cornect, a forty-seven year old resident in the community of Mainland, is a husband and father of four. He comes from a large family of eleven, eight boys and three girls, in which music was one of many talents. His family played such instruments as the accordion, the guitar, the mandolin and the fiddle. Kevin can clearly remember spending many hours sitting around with his siblings listening to the radio. The music they listened to was mainly French Canadian, Scottish and Country and Western.

Kevin began playing music at the early age of six and was greatly influenced
by his family members. He plays mainly the guitar but can also play the base, harmonica, drums and his favourite instrument, the mandolin. Along with his vocal ability, Kevin also has the ability to compose songs. He can compose a song from a simple phrase that may have caught his attention during a conversation. He is presently working on another new album with his brother Vince, the accordion player of the group, and is very excited about the new material.

"Traditional music is going down hill fast", says Kevin. He feels that once his generation is gone, traditional music will sadly fade. He believes that traditional music is being replaced by the influences of today's media. It's because of his love for traditional music that he continues to play.
