Ti-jardin
Ti
-jardin is a French Newfoundland musical duo which plays traditional
French music. Jack Cormier plays the accordion and brother Mark
Cormier plays the guitar and does vocals.
Jack
has played the accordion since the age of 9, entertaining at numerous
family events. Each year he takes part in festivals such as Une
longue veillée, Une journée dans le passé
and Un plaisir du bon vieux temps. Jack is known
not just for his talent but for his love of music manifested in
the joy with which he plays.
Mark
started playing the guitar at age fifteen in a family where music
was a part of life. He started composing at age 25. His songs
speak passionately of a way of life which no longer exists and
of memories which he holds dear.
Ti-Jardin
was formed in 1997. It is one of the very few groups in Newfoundland
which play and sing French music. The group released its first
CD entitled "Journées du passé" in July 1997.
Since
the release of its CD, Ti-jardin has had a number of exciting
engagements including participation in the Cabot 500 Celebrations
and the 1999 Winter Games. A life-long dream was realized in July
1998 when the group spent 15 days in France performing at the
festival Chants des marins in the city of Saint-Jilles-Croix-de-vie.
In June 1999 the duo performed at a marine festival in Mystic
Seaport in Boston. The two musicians were also featured on Radio-Canada's
programme Trajectoire in november 1998.
