The first settlers on Saint Croix Island had many interactions with First Nation peoples of the region. For those concerned, it may have been their first encounter with each other. There are several examples of specimens brought to Acadia from France. There are also examples of "New World" specimens that were of interest to De Mons and sent back to France.

We know they brought along livestock, food, drink, and hardware to the "New World". Listed below are a few specific examples of the cargo aboard their vessels:

Several sheep; one was lost at Port Mouton - giving it its name.
Carpenter's and mason's tools and hardware for building.
     Vegetables including cabbage, lettuce.
Beverages including wine, cider and rye.

What specimens did they return to France?
