The Saint Croix Island village was fortified with palisades
and the buildings were lined up along a crossroad in the centre. The architecture
is an example of one of the first European influences in North America.

to settle and advance European tradition. The French brought certain practicalities
with them, and the North American specimens they returned to France proved
