DWELLING OF PIERRE
DUGUA SIEUR DE MONS The Lieutenant General's residence was the first to be built on the island - "by good workmen" (Champlain). The construction style, known as Renaissance, is found in Rouen (France). The "Gros Horlorge" building, built in Rouen between 1527 and 1529, has the same architecture. Marc Lescarbot adds, "the residence of the said Sieur de Monts [was] built with beautiful and artistic woodwork, with the banner of France above." Return to previous page |
