Anne Savage's students' work was characterized by the use of linear and rhythmical design; the Art Nouveau style of flattening out which simplified nature, the elimination of light and shadow, and an emphasis on rhythmical movement. In addition, landscape and still life, the themes which preoccupied her in her painting, often became subject matter for student assignments.
