Anne Savage's development as a painter greatly influenced her classroom practice. She taught what she knew. Her teaching strategies paralleled her development as a painter.

Savage transmitted her love of nature and design to her students, inspiring them to see the world through the artist's eyes.

 

The sketches below are examples of works done by students in nearby parks.

 

"I took the girls as far as Fletcher's Field, with the lovely avenue of trees going from the monument back to Rachel street...We just drew that...somebody decided to put a river in, and it turned into a parkland...it gave them a definite feeling of being in touch with something real..."
