Boys worked on large mural projects or paintings and drawings with subject matter of their own choice such as war pictures, soldiers marching in parades, pirates and sailing ships. They were not scheduled into classes and worked in an unstructured situation.

Anne Savage's aesthetic could be seen in the mural designs with subject matter including futuristic cities and dragons.
