The commercial core is the heart of any community. Sault Ste. Marie's commercial core, which extended along Queen Street for some nine blocks from Gore Street to East Street, is representative of this concept. The buildings, once regarded as brash for their modern and novel appearance, now stand as stately, if somewhat diminished reminders of a time when Sault Ste. Marie, too, was a young community ready and eager to make its mark.
