John Tod had no other permanent romantic attachments until 1842, when he was at Fort Kamloops.
In 1842, Tod began a country marriage with Sophia Lolo, a First Nations woman. She was 16 or 17 years old at the time, while Tod was 49. She may have been the daughter of John Baptiste Lolo, a respected interpreter with the Hudson's Bay Company at Fort Kamloops. They had their first child, a daughter Mary, in 1843. |
Their wedding took place shortly before the marriage of their daughter Mary. Sophia died on February 8, 1883, aged 57 years, less than one year after her husband.
