Located on the historic and prosperous East Water Street area of Carbonear, 62 Water Street represents one of the few older private residences left standing in the town.

Bob Hedges and Jack Saunders built the house in 1919. Saunders was instrumental in the formation of the company Saunders Howell, which went on to become one of the leading builders and manufacturers in Newfoundland. This house is one of the best early examples of those constructed by the Saunders Howell firm.

The house was built for the Pike family, who owned the house until it was sold to Christine Rolton in 1985. Rolton planned to renovate the house and turn it into a bed and breakfast. However, she sold it to the King family who are currently restoring the house to the way it was earlier in the century. The house is now a private residence.

The house is a cottage style wooden structure with dormers, a hipped roof with wide bracketed eaves and a front porch supported by a wooden column. The house also has two bay windows with diamond-shaped panes in the upper sash.

It was recognised as a Registered Heritage Structure in September 1993.
