The area defined here as the Annapolis Basin actually extends from the Annapolis Basin inland to Maitland Bridge and the entrance to Kejimkujik National Park. The area is well known for its spectacular canoeing and hiking, both in the National Park as well as trails such as the Delap's Cove Wilderness Trail and Mickey hill Pocket Wilderness. Visitors to the area have an excellent chance to see a variety of shore birds as well as waterfowl. A visit to Kejimkujik National Park allows visitors an opportunity to visit a 300-year-old Hemlock forest and the only area in Canada where Blanding's Turtles are known to exist. The Annapolis Basin itself is the location of the worlds first Tidal Power Generating Station and Bear River is now home to North Americas first full operational Solar Aquatic Waste Water Treatment Facility.
