Navigating the website

Top menu bar

The first menu bar on the top of the page allows you to perform common navigational tasks, including:

  • Français - Switch between the two official languages at any time, anywhere on the site.
  • Contact us - Shows how to contact us to learn more about our work or to submit comments or questions about the website.
  • Help - Explains how to navigate the site and how to find information.
  • Search - Provides a text search of our website library, including our reports, fact sheets, press releases, speeches, news media and public statements.

Left side menu bar

The left sidebar is your key navigational tool. From anywhere on the website, click on the item that interests you to access that item immediately.

The Communities buttons are an easy way to find information about our major projects. Each community brings together research and publications, news, sites of interest and datasets related to that project.

The Datasets buttons allow you to create customized charts and tables about welfare and poverty in Canada. You can access data about total welfare incomes and the adequacy of welfare incomes. You can also get data about poverty rates in Canada by province, age group, gender and family type.

Finding information

There are several different ways to find information on this site. You can navigate using the horizontal menu at the top of every page or the vertical menu on the left side of the page.

You can also use the search function. You can click on Search on the top menu or select Research and Publications on the left menu. The search function allows you to search our website library, including our reports, fact sheets, press releases, speeches, news media and public statements.

You can search by:

  • title
  • keyword
  • community
  • volume number (for reports only)
  • library item type (e.g. report, fact sheet, press release)
  • release date

You can order the results of your search by title, release date or library item type.
