Senior Personnel and Public Service Renewal

The Senior Personnel and Public Service Renewal Branch provides advice and support to the Prime Minister and the Clerk of the Privy Council to build a strong, professional and competent public service.

This work includes policies and services relating to Governor-in-Council appointees, primarily deputy ministers; chairs, directors and chief executive officers of Crown corporations; and, heads of agencies. It also includes working with the DM Community and other central agencies to set strategic direction and priorities to achieve excellence in public service management and service delivery, with a particular focus on the renewal of the public service.

Key roles include:

  • Establishing and administering policies and services that promote high-quality, Governor- in-Council appointments and facilitate the recruitment and retention of senior personnel; 
  • Planning future public service leadership needs and ensuring the development of senior public servants (deputy ministers, heads of agencies, etc.)
  • Advancing the Government's public service management agenda in particular public service renewal and supporting the Clerk in his or her role as head of the Public Service.
