April 11, 2001 - National
Organ and Tissue Donation Plan - The Government of Canada will contribute
more than $20 million over the next five years for a plan to help increase and
coordinate safe organ and tissue donation in Canada.
April 5, 2001 - The
Comprehensive Strategy to Discourage Smoking - The Government announced a
comprehensive strategy to improve the health of Canadians by reducing tobacco
use. The strategy consists of: increased funding for tobacco control programs;
tobacco tax increases to discourage smoking; and a new tobacco tax structure
designed to break the link between tobacco prices and smuggling.
April 4, 2001 - The
Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada - Creation of a
Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada, to be chaired by former
Saskatchewan Premier Roy Romanow. The Commission will inquire into and
undertake dialogue with Canadians on the future of Canada's public health care
system.
September 11, 2000 - Plan
that ensures our health care system stays healthy - In support of the
agreements reached by First Ministers, the Government of Canada will invest a
total of $23.4 billion over the next five years.
