John Davis: Master Navigator
Third Voyage May 19, 1587 - September 15, 1587
On his third voyage, Davis had three ships: Ellen, Sunneshine and Elizabeth, although Sunneshine and Elizabeth were only for fishing. He explored both sides of the Davis Strait in Ellen and went as far north as 73° N, farther than any European explorer before him. When he saw Baffin Bay, he was certain that it would lead to Asia. When he sailed south again, he passed the opening to Hudson Strait. Like Frobisher, he did not go through it.
