This section includes a day or a month in the life of a settler, giving us a
small picture of what day to day life was like for the average settler. There is a
transcript of a letter from a family in Ireland to their children who escaped to the
island to avoid the harshness of the potato famine. These stories along with the
others in this section give us a look at the reality of life for settlers. We see
personal accounts of their days, what was important in there day to day life. These
accounts differ from the other articles in this site because they are written by the
