The history of West Prince would be incomplete without this section, for a large
portion of our ancestors lives were dependant on the ships that sail to our many
ports. In the early settlements these ships provided them with the supplies they
needed to survive on the Island. They carried the materials needed to build the
railways. The vast number of ships that travelled the waters surrounding the Island
also increased the damages caused by the massive storms that hit the area. Storms like
the Yankee Gale and the August Gale that resulted in thousands of dollars in damages,
hundreds of lost ships and lost lives are without comparison even today.
