- We go to school to learn things. We learn the letters of the alphabet, for instance, which help to make words, then sentences and then…. stories!

Have you noticed how big Jojo's pencil is? That's not only because it is in the front of the picture and very close to you. If it takes up so much space, maybe it's because Jojo really loves to write and draw. That might give you the idea of doing the same thing. Look! Some words in the text are written larger than the others. There must be a reason. Do you have any idea why?

Pichou can't read or write. He only listens. You could say that he is "the picture of friendship". Maybe that's why Ginette Anfousse made his portrait that we see framed behind Jojo!

You will notice that Ginette Anfousse does not show Jojo when she is in school. The only part of the book that could lead us to the school is the one with the bus. But, in the book, the bus leaves on one page and comes back on the next page. There are no words. Ginette Anfousse leaves some space for memories and for the imagination.
