Claiming your UofM Computer Accounts

This document describes the use of the claimid program for UofM students and employees who require computer accounts.

Before you begin:

  • You need your student or employee number.
  • Students must be registered in the current term with no holds on their student records for non-payment of fees.
  • Employees must be processed through Human Resources.
  • Students will be given two accounts: UMnetID and INS. UMnetID will provide email and other computer services. INS will allow use of the PCs in our computer labs.
  • Employees must choose the accounts they require.
  • You will be assigned the same userid and password for all accounts that are created at the same time. You can change the passwords later.
  • Write down your userid and password, on separate pieces of paper for security reasons. This is the only time your password will be displayed. Do not tell anyone your password.
  • If your account already exists, your password will not be displayed or changed.
  • Click on FINISH or your accounts will not be activated.
  • Students can choose whether their email addresses are listed in the University's web directory.
  • Your email address will be (your UMnetID)@cc.umanitoba.ca. Please read your mail or forward it to an address you use.
  • Remember to close your browser if you are using a public or shared computer.
  • Account usage rules
    • Your account is for your use only, not to be shared with family and friends.
    • Commercial use is not allowed.
    • Harassment and spamming are not allowed.
    • $25 suspension/reactivation fee.
