REPORTING FROM QUEBEC

By Carolyn Marie Souaid. Concrete steps were taken this year to consolidate the liaison with Maison de la Poésie, the League’s sister-organization for francophone poets in Quebec. This “rapprochement” with our francophone counterparts was something that my predecessor, Jennifer Boire, sought to establish during her mandate. Earlier this year, Isabelle Courteau invited me to take part in two meetings to discuss the concerns of Anglophone poets (within the Quebec context) and to provide input on what we would like to see in an official “Maison de la Poésie” (the allocation of a permanent building dedicated to Poetry), a project that the City of Montreal is currently considering.
