Membership in the League of Canadian Poets

The League offers four levels of membership to all Canadian citizens and landed immigrants. Applications for full and associate members are assessed by a membership committee elected from and by the membership. Only full members may vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and participate in the League's decision-making, fund-raising, committees and other programs.

Supporting Member ($100)

Student member ($20)

Eligibility:
Student membership is for high school or post-secondary students with an interest in writing poetry.

Associate member ($60)

Eligibility:
Associate membership is for those who are writing poetry and have publishing credits or are performing regularly but who have not yet met the requirements for full membership.

Full Member ($175)

Eligibility:
Poets who have published at least one trade book or two chapbooks, or produced sufficient number of poetry tapes, videos or CDs, or have sufficient publication of poetry in recognized literary periodicals, e-zines and/or anthologies that, in the opinion of the Membership Committee, is the equivalent of book publication and is of sufficient poetic achievement to merit membership in the League.

Poets who write in languages other than English and French should produce two letters of sponsorship from members of the League or other recognized poets or writers who speak and write the language in which the applicant's poetry is written.

  • Full listing (photo, biography and bibliography) in the on-line member's catalogue
  • Participation in the National Poetry Month readings and events

  • You will be eligible to be selected to represent the League at major international poetry festivals
  • You will be eligible to stand for any National Council, committees or awards jury positions at the AGM elections
  • Mediation committee will help you resolve your professional problems
  • Promotion of your books through international poetry promotion projects
  • Promotion of member's book releases and poetry related activities through our electronic newsletter


Membership Responsibilities Include:

  • payment of annual dues
  • attending the Annual General Meeting (AGM) when you can
  • voluntary participation in the League's decision-making, fund-raising, committees and other programs.

If you do not wish to become a member at this time, but would still like to support the League and its programs, please make a donation and join the Poets' Circle. Your financial support will help us deliver many important programs-- such as National Poetry Month, young poets website and ezine, poetry awards, promotion of Canadian poetry books that children, students, teachers, librarians and people across Canada have come to depend on each year.
