National Poetry Month Events 2006 include:

  • Toronto, ON- Andrea Thompson, Seth-Adrian Harris, Edmond David and J. Nicole Noel will be reading at the National Film Board on April 15 at 8pm.
  • Toronto, ON- Readings at Riverdale Farm include poets John Oughton, Elana Wolff, Merle Nudelman, Sheila Stewart and Mary Lou Soutar-Hynes on Monday, April 10, from 7 p.m.
  • Ottawa, ON- “Word Works" features John Baglow, Cyril Pabydeen, Christopher Levenson, Nadine McInnis and Nicola Valpe as part of the Mayworks Labour Arts Festival in Ottawa. Readings will take place on April 27 at 7pm.
  • Brampton, ON- Readings at Dorchester Park include poets Gabrielle McIntire, Erin Foloy and Krystle Mullin on April 22 at 3pm.
  • Portland, ON- The Conservation Authority of Foley Mountain will feature a celtic band and poets Audrey Ogilvie, T. Anders Carson and John Brontingham on April 22 at 8pm.
  • Portland, ON- The 2nd Annual Poetry event at the Legion Hall will feature a live jazz band and readinsg by T. Anders Carson, Jennifer Boire and John Brontingham on April 21 at 8pm.
  • Brantford, ON- Poetry readings for the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of 56th Field Regiment at William Merrifield Armories on April 1 at 7pm will feature Erin Noteboom, James Deahl, Stelle Mazur Preda, John B. Lee. 
  • Calgary, AB- Glenbow Museum is an exciting new venue for the Calgary International Spoken Word Festival. Readings will take place on April 29 at 2pm. featuring George Bowering, Ivan E. Coyote, Robert Priest, Catherine Kidd and bill bissett
  • Edmonton, AB- “Poems out of the Box" readings by Wendy McGrath and Alice Major will take place on April 18 at 2pm at the gallery of Victoria School for Performing and Visual Art.         
  • Wolfville, NS- The 2nd Annual "Gaspereau Evening” at the Al Whittle Theatre will take place on April 20 at 7:30pm. The evening includes music and poetry by Peter Sanger and Michael deBeyer.
  • Antigonish, NS- The Art Gallery at St. Francis Xavier University features Anne Simpson and Pam Calabrese MacLean on April 5 at 7:30pm.
  • Counrtney, BC- Comox Valley Art Gallery on April 1 at 1pm will feature Jan Bush, Louis Adell, Elizabeth Bartel and Sharon Urdahl.
  • Comox, BC- Pearl Ellis Gallery on April 27 at 7pm will feature Katherine Kane, Marieluisa Auterson, Vera Jensen and Jaqueline Cahoon.
  • Vancouver, BC- Readings at Womyns Ware on April 17 at 3pm by Michael V. Smith, Jennica Harper, and Elizabeth Bachinsky.       
  • Duncan, BC- The Cedar Creek Writers Group will read at the B. Dinter Nursery Ltd. On April 22 at 10am.  Poets include Joanna Weston, Peg Cox, Ruth Laming, Kate Southerland and Elizabeth Symon.
  • Victoria, BC- Readings at Victoria City Council on April 12 featuring Wendy Morton, Barbara Pelman and Susan Stenton.
  • Surrey, BC- Poetry readings at the Surrey City Hall on April 28 at noon include readings by Heidi Greco and Ashok Bhargava.
  • Victoria, BC- Readings at the University of Victoria by Iain Higgins, Eric Miller, Mitch Parry and Marlene Cookshaw at 7pm.
  • Humboldt, SK- Readings at Humboldt Collegiate Institute Library with Jeanette Lynes on April 7 at 7:30 and Shelley Leedahl on April 13 at 7:30pm.
  • Saskatoon, SK- Durand's Fine Footwear & Accessories will feature readings by Wynne Nicholson, Dolores Reimer, Stone Baby on April 20 at 7pm.
  • Fredericton, NB- Readings at Brewbaker's Restaurant on April 7 at 7pm featuring Shari Andrews, Lynn Davies, M. Travis Lane, Tony Steele and Roger Moore.    
  • Fredericton, NB- Readings will take held on the crest of a hill outside the Ice House overlooking the vista of the city and the St. John River on April 9 at 10am. Poets include Tammy Armstrong, Marilyn Lerch, Kathy Mac, Laurence Hutchman and Nela Rio.
  • Winnipeg, MB- Augustine United Church presents the Candence and Coffee poetry readings and live jazz band on April 22 at 7pm. Poets include Dennis Cooley, Catherine Hunter, K.I. Press and A.J. Levin.
  • St. John's, NL- Marian Frances White is the League of Canadian Poets rep for Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. She will host A Poem In My Tea- an afternoon tea at 348 Mount Scio Rd. on Thursday, April 27th to celebrate poetry and especially the poetics of Newfoundland author, Geraldine Rubia.   • Victoria, BC- On Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. local writers will celebrate the life of this famed poet Al Purdy in the meeting room of the Central Library (735 Broughton Street).  Brian Brett, Linda Rogers and Doug Beardsley will read from Purdy’s work and share their personal stories about his influence on contemporary writers and poets.
