Getting started

After registering, the CAWC Institute begins with the completion of the Practice Reflective Portfolio, followed by the completion of Levels 1 to 3 of the CAWC Institute. The completion of levels 1 to 3 are interconnected and reinforced by the three domains of learning.

The Practice Reflective Portfolio is a self-directed activity that is the first step in your successful completion of the CAWC Institute. It allows you to explore your individual learning style, practice gaps and goals, and supports the creation of action plans for lifelong learning. Because learning is lifelong, we recommend that the Portfolio be reviewed biannually.  If you would like advice and guidance, CAWC Institute faculty are willing to review and provide reflections, recommendations, and advice for a modest fee.  The Practice Reflective Portfolio is an essential part of your learning, and we urge you to start it immediately upon registration for the CAWC Institute.

The first three levels of the CAWC Institute (Levels 1 to 3) are based on a foundation of understanding the four CAWC Best Practice Recommendations for Wound Management articles as well as the Principles of Wound Healing article. These five articles provide you with a evidence informed framework that enables you to advance your own clinical practice.

Please note: Level 1 or its equivalent* must be completed prior to attending Level 2.

(*Certificate of completion of wound care certificate program, wound-related Masters degree, certified Enterostomal Therapy Program, or approval on an individual basis)

Four steps toward turning knowledge into practice
