CBSA States Intention to Begin Implementing WCO Framework of Standards

Ottawa, Ontario, June 24, 2005 - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today confirmed its intention to begin implementing the World Customs Organization's (WCO) Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade. Canada is one of 166 WCO member customs administrations that have adopted the Framework.

The Framework is intended to secure the global trade supply chain while offering the business community a number of trade facilitation benefits. The CBSA is dedicated to consultation with Canadian trade to support the successful implementation of the WCO Framework.

The CBSA has also committed to providing support to other countries in building their capacity to implement the WCO framework.

The WCO is an independent intergovernmental body that has been committed to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations since 1952. Canada has been a member of the WCO since 1971.
