Summary

Established in 1952, the World Customs Organization (WCO) is an independent intergovernmental body focused on enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations. With 171 member Governments, it is the only worldwide intergovernmental organization competent in Customs matters.

WCO members control and administer the international movement of goods and, as a result, are in a unique position to provide increased security to the global supply chain. Members also contribute to socio-economic development through revenue collection and trade facilitation.

Canada's Involvement in the WCO

Canada has been a member of the WCO since 1971.

The CBSA continues to consult Canadian trade in order to support the successful implementation of the WCO Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade.

RCCDG and WCO Americas and the Caribbean

The Xth Regional Conference of Customs Directors General of the Americas and the Caribbean (RCCDG) and Meeting of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Members of the Americas and Caribbean Region was held in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, from May 7 to 11, 2007.
