National Youth Officer Program

The National Youth Officer Program is a partnership between police, schools and communities that aims to reduce youth crime and victimization and help youth become contributing members of society.

After consultations with education, community and police partners, the RCMP developed and implemented the program, which provides police officers with the tools and guidance to ensure their school visits are meaningful.

The RCMP now provides services for approximately 5,000 of the more than 16,500 schools in Canada.

Created in 2007, the program will expand this year to include other police partners, who will share and access information and resources through the Youth Officer Resource Centre (YORC).

Designed to support the program, YORC offers tools, tips, and lesson plans, which have been developed and tested by educators, police and youth. It also includes a number of presentations for police to deliver to youth on topics varying from gangs to drugs to Internet safety and bullying.
