Flag Yukon Territory

The Yukon is known mainly for its minerals, placer gold and prospecting history. The Klondike gold rush in 1898 opened up the territory to mining and prospecting. Fine quality mineral specimens, such as lazulite, wardite and rare phosphorus minerals come from the world renowned Rapid Creek locality. Gem quality emerald was discovered in 1998 by Expatriate Resources. Other gemstone localities may exist.
