A Pioneer Tragedy

The tragedy of Sam Hadnut, a settler in the early years of the century, was a result of uncontrolled fire. The history of the tragedy is all conjecture, but it is believed that while clearing his land, with fire, the fire got away on him, and in the process of trying to control the fire, a tree limb pinned Hadnut to the ground. A local farmer, expecting Hadnut to come and work for him, saw the smoke and went to see what was wrong. He then made the horrifying discovery. Hadnut was so badly burnt that his body had to be carried out in a blanket. Today, all that remains to remind us that Hadnut was here are the remains of his cabin and barn.
