Gabriel Dumont was another prominent leader of the Metis. Dumont had led many battles that the Metis were involved in and the one that is remembered is Fish Creek where he used his hunting tactics to defeat the opposition. Dumont knew six different languages and was an excellent trapper, hunter, fisher, and farmer. After the battle of Batoche Dumont escaped to the states and started to help the Metis get organized in their communities.
