Norris (1900-1967) Born in St. Albert, Alberta on May 26 Malcolm
Norris grew up with a great sense of pride for his Native ancestry.
Norris was involved in many Metis organizations in his lifetime.
In 1928 along with others Norris started up the Metis Association
of Alberta the group was known as the big five. Norris then went
on to serve in the R.C.A.F but when he returned he accepted a job
as the newly elected progressive government of the CCF of Saskatchewan
where he had encouraged many people to stand up for their rights.
Dismissed from the job in 1964 Norris moved on to become a director
of the Prince Albert Indian - Metis Friendship Centre and in the
same year Norris started up the first Metis Association of Northern
Saskatchewan. Two years later an illness struck and Norris suffered
a crippling stroke but this did not stop him from attending meetings
of the Metis Association. Norris Passed away in Calgary on December
5, 1967. Metis people will always remember and be grateful for the
changes and leadership he has shown to the Metis Nation.
