The future of cartography lies in its continuing ability to change and adapt to each map-user's individual needs. The future of cartography will be the ability to map anything from the Internet, to the land features of other planets, to the ocean bottom. Students can best prepare for the future of cartography by keeping up with new technologies, including image retrieval by satellites and other remote sensing methods, and mapping software - Geographic Information Systems, or GISs.
