The Seder plate is a decorative dish which is placed on the table during the Passover ceremony. Five foods which are symbolic of Passover are placed on this plate. These include a hard-boiled egg, karpas (parsley, lettuce, or celery), charoses (made of apples, nuts, and wine), a roasted shankbone of lamb, and bitter herbs (usually horseradish). On some Passover plates, there is also room to place matzohs, or unleavened breaded. Ornaments or images depicting these symbolic foods often adorn the Seder plate.
