The Georgetown Mariners were one of the first teams to join the league in 1991 and have participated ever since. The starting line up in the first year was: Short stop - Tony MacKenzie, Centerfielder - Daryl MacKenzie, Pitcher - Jody Johnston, 3rd Base - Billy Perry, 2nd Base - Gordie Gotell, Left fielder - Todd Murphy, Catcher - Joey MacConnell, 1st - Ricky Jenkins, Right fielder - John Herbert, and Coach - Mark Murphy. The Marniers were regular season champs in 1991 & '95, and have made it to the KCBL finals 4 times. 1999 would see the Marniers hard work pay off as they were crowned KCBL champions, fighting back from a 3 game deficit to win it all in 7 games over the Cardigan Clippers. The Marniers may not have enjoyed the success that they have without strong support and dedication from their fans and organizers. Lionel King, so they say, was one of the greatest KCBL fans ever. Lionel could always be seen at the diamond, and his knowledge of the game was next to perfection. His untimely passing in 1994 left huge hole behind the Mariners' backstop in Georgetown.
Mark Murphy was the first coach for the Georgetown Marniers. He was the man that attended all the first meetings to convince Georgetown that they had talent, and to join KCBL. He also was there to ensure that the field was prepared for the upcoming game.
Clarence MacSwain was the Mariners general manager for a number of years. An inspiration on the bench, not to mention his presence at the games was motivating.
Through support from the community and dedication of the players, Georgetown is sure to have a strong presence in the KCBL for years to come.
