Known as being one of the best pitchers ever to play in Morell, Louis has given us great memories of how baseball can bring a community together, and how his passion for the game has left an imprint in the community. His baseball career started back in 1958, when Louis was 12 years old. He walked two miles, back and fourth everyday, to play baseball in Morell. Even at a young age he displayed great baseball skills. For the next five years he improved and developed his skills, preparing for the day he would join the senior league. That day came in 1963 when at the age of 17, Louis started to play for Morell. He quickly became one of the best pitchers Morell ever had, and rarely missed a starting assignment, sometimes pitching two and three games in a row! Then in 1967, Louis was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award", for all his great work in the community. Two years later, in 1969, Louis

played in the Canada games with P.E.I. He came back from that experience with a wealth of knowledge, which he used to master the senior league. Then in 1973, at the age of 27, Louis was scouted to go play for the Canadian National team, but he never went, and the team ended up winning the silver medal. He continued to play from there on until 1981 when at 35, Louis called it quits for the senior league, and started to play old timers baseball. He was also coaching around this time. He coached various teams during a five-year span, including the Peakes Bombers in 1993. In 2000, Louis was selected to play in the Worlds over 50 baseball tournament, but he never attended, a regret that he feels to this day. Louis is still hanging around the baseball scene, which he feels now has lost the desire and passion for the game that he in-bodied in his playing days. Louis Murphy will never be forgotten for all he has contributed to baseball in Morell.
